WAGE THEFT

According to court and labor department rulings, more than 1,300 Bay Area companies failed to pay workers nearly $20 million in wages in 2014.  These are the workers who can least afford to have their wages stolen.  Employers take advantage of these workers by demanding that they work long hours for illegally low pay or, in some instances, for no pay at all.

The Sunnyvale Democratic Club Wage Theft Task Force has been asking the City Council to address this issue as an urgent priority for over a year. The first step is to create a study issue.

A letter to the City Council from earlier this year requesting a study issue is attached.

Ruth Silver Taube, the Coordinator of the Santa Clara County Wage Theft Coalition, has obtained a list of restaurants with Wage Theft judgements in our area.
